Providing an emotional-therapeutic response to parents of children recently diagnosed with disabilities

What is the essence of the program?

The project aims to support parents whose child has been recently diagnosed with special needs. It is designed to provide emotional support when receiving the diagnosis and accepting it, and help gain a better understanding of disabilities, and the rights of children with disabilities.


What does the program include?

  • Information about the rights of children with disabilities.

Why is this important?

The project responds to the needs of parents for emotional support following the diagnosis. It enables:

  • Accepting the diagnosis.
  • Gaining a better understanding of the disability.
  • Learning about the rights that the child is entitled to.

Who is the project intended for?

The project is intended for parents whose child has been recently diagnosed with special needs.


What will we learn in the program?

Within the framework of the 12-session program, the parents will receive support covering issues including:

  • Losing one's fantasy child.
  • Family ties and dynamics.
  • Viewing the child as a product of all their traits.
  • Steps toward autonomy.

  • It provides tools for coping with the various complexities arising in the families' daily lives.

Who are our partners?

Maggie Savitch, an expert in psychological education, who is also a psychotherapist, a parents' counselor, and a lecturer to educational staff and therapists.
