Functional mapping kit for identifying goals
How do we create a clear and accurate picture of the students and help them make progress?
What is the essence of the program?
A kit that helps the teaching and therapy staff to develop effective personal programs.
What is the kit, and what does it include?
- An innovative, data-based tool for functional mapping and for the development of student profiles.
- A tool for defining goals and objectives, and for writing a structured work plan.
- A booklet assisting to choose which issues to prioritize, define goals and develop an intervention plan.
Why is this important?
Working with a multidisciplinary team is important, but also challenging – requiring close coordination and a common language among the various professionals engaging with the same student. The tool creates a simple and uniform language to describe the student, and thus helps the teachers form a comprehensive situational picture that assists them to identify goals and consolidate interventions in individually tailored programs.
Who is the program intended for?
The program was developed for teaching staffs for children and adolescents (from 1st grade to high school) with autism, with high support levels. With minor adaptations, it is also suitable for students with various disabilities and lower levels of support.
What is special about the kit?
- The functional profile is based on the International Classification of Functioning (ICF) and is adapted for life in the school and classroom.
- The supplemental booklet creates an indicator in a clear and practical language, which helps choose, prioritize and develop the intervention plan.
Who are our partners in this process?
The program was developed in a knowledge extraction and inquiry process in partnership with the team at Benjamin Rothman Gvanim School in Kiryat Shemona – a school for students diagnosed with complex functioning autism.
