Coming soon: The autism identity
An Educational Program for Fostering Self-Acceptance and Belonging
Understanding the autism identity is an essential element in the development of children and youths on the autism spectrum. As an autistic child or youth, gaining better knowledge of oneself allows gaining a better understanding of their characteristics, strengths and difficulties, and imparts tools for better coping. This knowledge helps build a sense of belonging, increases self-confidence and mitigates feelings of loneliness and alienation. Understanding the autism identity promotes self-acceptance and helps the children optimally blend into society, while realizing their unique potential.
The program was developed in a knowledge extraction and inquiry process in partnership with the team at the Orot HaZorim yeshiva. It includes three steps: The first takes place with the teaching staff, the second – with the parents, and the third – with the youths themselves.
