Coming soon: The autistic identity
An Educational Program for Fostering Self-Acceptance and Belonging
Exploring autistic identity is a crucial part of the development of autistic children and adolescents. Self-awareness of autism enables children and teens to better understand their unique characteristics, strengths, and challenges, providing them with tools for more effective coping.
This knowledge helps build a sense of belonging, strengthens self-confidence, and reduces feelings of loneliness and alienation. Understanding autistic identity fosters self-acceptance and supports children in integrating into society in the best possible way, while maximizing their unique potential.
The Autistic Identity Understanding program is being developed through a collaborative research and knowledge extraction process with the staff of “Orot HaZore’im” Yeshiva in the Lower Galilee.
The program will be implemented in three stages:
-
The first stage involves research and learning with teaching staff.
-
The second stage includes involving parents in the research and learning process.
-
The third stage implements the program with the students themselves to learn from their experience.
The program was developed in a knowledge extraction and inquiry process in partnership with the team at the Orot HaZorim yeshiva. It includes three steps: The first takes place with the teaching staff, the second - with the parents, and the third - with the youths themselves.
