Financial literacy for adults with disabilities
Making Financial Literacy Accessible for Adults with Cognitive Disabilities
What is the essence of the program?
A first-of-its-kind program in Israel, intended to encourage the wise handling of money among adults with cognitive disabilities.
What does the program include?
The program is comprised of content units built around an online digital learning environment, with clips, lesson plans and activities focusing on financial literacy.
Why is this important?
Adults with cognitive disabilities are most often dependent on significant figures in their lives in the handling of their financial affairs. One of the main reasons for this is the lack of opportunities to acquire practical knowledge, guided training and practice in the proper use and management of money. The program is intended to overcome this hurdle, and thus encourages independence and autonomy in the daily lives of adults with cognitive disabilities.
Who is the program intended for?
The program is intended for professionals, rehabilitation counselors and professional support personnel that accompany adults with cognitive disabilities in the various welfare frameworks (day centers, employment centers, employment rehabilitation centers, etc.).
What is special about the program?
The program was developed in partnership with the Shalem Foundation and the Ministry of Welfare and Social Affairs' Disabilities Administration, and serves as infrastructure for a project that involves meeting needs as they arise, with personnel that provide employment services for adults with disabilities.
Who are our partners in this process?
Shalem Foundation, which specializes in the provision of comprehensive assistance in developing services for individuals with cognitive developmental disabilities in local authorities, and the Ministry of Welfare and Social Affairs.
